You could access our state of the art facilities and join dozens of sports societies.
The Edge
As a student, you’ll get discounted access to our £12.2 million sports centre, The Edge. If you’re living in university accommodation you’ll get Club membership at The Edge for free. You can opt to upgrade your membership to premium if you fancy more flexibility. Located on campus, The Edge has a 250-station gym floor, a 25-metre pool, sports courts and a climbing wall.
Our fitness suite is one of the largest of any university in the UK and has the latest equipment and Sky TV. Over 220 exercise classes take place every week during term time which range from Pilates and Yoga to Les Mills Body Pump and Swimfit. You could also access our dedicated personal training and strength and conditioning rooms with qualified trainers available when you need some extra motivation.
The Edge also has squash courts and sports halls where you can play badminton, netball, five-a-side and more. Additional studio space, sports halls and squash courts can be found at the Gryphon Sports Centre and Cromer Terrace Gym.
Outdoor sports
You could make use of our Sports Park Weetwood which has high quality pitches for a number of outdoor sports. Located three miles north of campus, it has been used for training by a number of international teams including the Scottish rugby team.
You could also access our dedicated outdoor centre, Selside, in the Yorkshire Dales and which is perfect for activities like hiking, climbing, caving or mountain biking.
Sport clubs and programmes
At Leeds you’ll be able to get involved in sports clubs and societies whatever your ability or ambition. You could get involved in a range of activities from surfing to dance to martial arts.
Our Get Out, Get Active programme gives you the opportunity to get involved in a number of new sports and includes coached taster sessions, trips away and social events.
Elite athletes
We’re proud of our performance sport programme which is dedicated to developing top class sports clubs and individuals. We also have a prestigious Sports Scholarship programme which supports elite athletes as they combine academic and sporting excellence during their time at university.
A number of alumni have had successful careers in professional sport or athletics including Olympic triathlon medallists Alistair and Jonny Brownlee.
If you’re interested in coaching, you could get involved in our coaching scholar programme. You could attain a nationally recognised coaching qualification and gain experience through joining the University coaching team.

The 25m performance pool is perfect for our training; we also use the strength and conditioning room and playing fields. The facilities in the pipeline are really exciting as well.
